AIA Portland Announces 2011 Design Awards

Everything’s coming up roses for 20 A&D firms in the Pacific Northwest. The Portland chapter of the American Institute of Architects doled out their annual awards for design excellence recently to Rose City’s design community, honoring stand-out projects in 2011.

PCC Newberg Academic Center by Hennebery Eddy Architects in Newberg, Oregon

Columbia Boulevard Support Facility by Skylab Architecture in Portland

AIA honored the winning firms in two major categories, “Built” and “Unbuilt,” including a sustainability award going to Hennebery Eddy Architects for their PCC Newberg Academic Center and a Craftsmanship award given to Randy Stegmeier, Ryan Yadan, and Jenn Ward for their quiet house. Even Portland Mayor Sam Adams put his own stamp of approval on Works Partnership’s Tandem condominium, selecting it for the Mayor’s Award for Design Excellence.

Early Childhood Development Center by Mahlum in Gresham, Oregon

Two Story Four Square by Heidi Beebe and Doug Skidmore in Boise, Idaho

Held at the Portland Museum of Art, the 20 winning projects were selected by Merrill Elam, a principal at Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects; Lisa Iwamoto, a partner at IWAMOTOSCOTT Architecture; and Vanessa Kassabian, director of design for Snøhetta New York.
