AIA/LA Names 2010 Restaurant Design Awards Nominees

Rest assured, the Restaurant Design Awards are back—and bigger than ever. The American Institute of Architects Los Angeles chapter has just released the list of finalists for the 2010 RDA’s, its beloved awards program for the eateries and watering holes that often outshine the stars in the City of Angels and beyond.

This year, finalists include the not only the usual suspects from California but also hotspots from as far away as Colorado and New York—any project submitted from a U.S.-based firm or venue was eligible for consideration. A panel of jurors from the design demimonde, including Shimoda Design Group principal Joey Shimoda and Clive Piercy of Air Conditioned Design selected the finalists in three categories: Restaurants, Cafés, and Bars and Lounges. The Peoples Choice Award is also back by popular demand with foodie fans and design aficionados once again encouraged to vote for the their favorite finalists on AIA/LA’s website.

The winners will be announced at the 6th Annual Restaurant Design Awards Ceremony at Mobius LA on Friday, June 25 while the Jury and People’s Choice Awards will be announced separately the same day following a panel with the judges.

I like the Las Perlas by MASS Architecture. This is my bet for the best restaurant design for 2010.

Very nice use of timber at Press Club by Baldauf Catton von Eckartsberg Architects but maybe the light balance is a bit off not a great pic to show this off also I’m thinking… regards Wayne Neylan – Linear Projects Aust

Some really incredible designs and I love all the ceiling decorations. If I had a higher ceiling I’d be very tempted to try recreating a few of those designs in my own home.

Really interesting ceiling application for Choice restaurant.

I’ve been to Gjellina in Venice Beach several times. Casual, inviting space, but the food is the real star, every dish is excellent.
