nysid studentsVenerable auction house Sotheby’s and the New York School of Interior Design are launching a collaborative educational venture, offering a two-year course of study that will garner graduates both an interior design certificate from NYSID and an Masters of Art from Sotheby’s Institute of Art.

The 40-year-old Sotheby’s Institute specializes in professional degrees  in art history and business; NYSID, coming nearly on its centennial year, is a focused, hands-on program for aspiring designers. The institutions’ respective strengths will be blended in the new cooperative enterprise, giving students both a scholarly purview of the art world past and present as well as a practical background in applied art.

Says Dr. David C. Levy, president of Sotheby’s Art Institute, “This program’s integration of art history and design provides a unique opportunity for our students to combine professional knowledge of the international art market with the in-depth, studio-based design training at NYSID.”
