International design manufacturer and think tank Droog launched its latest initiative, Saved by Droog, a new exhibition in Warsaw, Poland, and its second devoted to recycled wares. The city’s Ujazdowski Castle—once home to princes and dukes, now home to Poland’s Contemporary Center for Art—will play host to the show of design objects fashioned by Droog designers from cast-off dead stock. The show is  open through January 15 and is part of the Center for Art’s Laboratory of the Future, a series of co-sponsored exhibitions that explore new models for economic development in the 21st century.

The current show’s concept dates back to 2009 when Droog began purchasing large quantities of goods being deaccessioned due to a declining global economy. Some 5,000 items, “from handkerchiefs to dog baskets and ceramic cups,” were acquired and transformed into products on display in the current show. Droog’s first exhibition of this kind was held at Milan’s Salone del Mobile following a Spring 2010 show.

Looking to grow the recycling initiative, Droog plans to reach out to other large-scale private companies and encourage them to find creative uses for their dead stock. The initiative, called “Up,” will be the subject of a Droog-led conference in Amsterdam on November 3.
