Pantone Spring 2012 Color Report

We know it’s technically still summer, but can we bypass the nasty barrage of winter weather and go straight to next spring? Even Pantone is giving us a little push. The global authority on color recently unveiled the Pantone Fashion Color Report Spring 2012 to coincide with the start of New York Fashion Week.

The report features the top 10 colors for next year’s spring season, and the colors are as follows:

The top colors for women’s fashion for spring 2012 are as follows:

Pantone 17-1463 Tangerine Tango
Pantone 13-0759 Solar Power
Pantone 18-3628 Bellflower
Pantone 18-2140 Cabaret
Pantone 19-3953 Sodalite Blue
Pantone 14-0116 Margarita
Pantone 14-2808 Sweet Lilac
Pantone 14-5420 Cockatoo
Pantone 18-1210 Driftwood
Pantone 16-1120 Starfish

“Consumers look to spring for renewed energy, optimism and the promise of a brighter day,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “They have learned how color can help them alter a mood, while providing the vitality and enthusiasm that enables them to experiment with new looks and color combinations.”

Leatrice is so correct to link mood and color. With news less than positive, color is a way to feel better. Personally I love Tangerine Tango. What a boost for an accent and I’d love it for home accessories too.

Lush, layered and optimistic. its nice to climb out of “americana colonials”, “elastic plastics” and “eco-greens” and into more celebratory hues. welcome sping.

Like Faith, I,too, love the Tangerine Tango. Using it as an accent color, esp. with grey, would be beautiful. Pops of a happy color spread around in a space just makes you smile. I also love Driftwood.

These are the same trite, boring unsophisticated colors usually employed for the springtime. Tangerine Tango and and Cabaret are particularly clawingly sweet and Driftwood and Starfish are unappealing and dull. I really wonder about their taste level at color marketing – not to mention their understanding of and independence of the markets they serve.

Nice palette, bright to overcome the economic worries. Looks very 80s to me.
