ICFF 2011: UM Project

Francois Chambard, the brilliant designer behind UM Project does not disappoint this year at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF). Designers may be familiar with his ever popular and delightful milking stool, which is just simply a crowd pleaser. Small but strong, the collection of stools lining the wall of his booth make even the most exhausted ICFF goer feel a boost of energy.
This year Chambard is showcasing his U.M.O2 stool in an entirely new wardrobe; stripped of last year’s cork “cloak,” this year U.M.02 sports felt outerwear in a stunning orange/red with pink inserts and a green one with light mint inserts. Never having been a fan of cork, I was thrilled to see these wonderful quirky pieces in a brighter light this year.
Speaking of light, I feel like a highlight of his booth are the L.U.M. lamps with their shades in polished copper and satin brass mixed with ash, as well as lacquered wood in a light pink and mint green. The proportions are squat and unusual and that is exactly what is delightful about this light fixture.
Chambard breathes life and personality into his furniture pieces; they are humorous and serious all in the same breath. Keep at it Francois!
