Marimekko has had U.S. designers swooning for half a century. Last week the Finnish textile company announced it’s strengthening its roots on this side of the pond in not one, but two retail spots in the Big Apple.
In collaboration with the brand management firm C2Group, Marimekko is slated to open a stand-alone retail operation this month in Manhattan. The company’s current US retailers include Marimekko concept stores in New York, Cambridge, and Miami.

In mid-October, the manufacturer will open a 1,775-square-foot shop-in-shop outpost inside the Crate and Barrel SoHo store on Houston Street. Marimekko and the home furnishings retails are also exploring further opportunities for collaboration, including additional U.S. shop-in-shops and e-commerce.
The company will also broaden its European and Asian reach by the end of the year with the network of Marimekko retail shops expanding to Malmo, Sweden, and Berlin. South Korea’s first Marimekko concept store will be opened in Seoul, as well.
