What will surely be the biggest fashion trend to come out of Scandinavia since carrying a copy of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” Converse sneakers adorned with patterns by Finish textile designer Marimekko will be hitting the streets this month.

The first partnership between the iconic companies, the women’s spring collection will feature classic sneakers like the Chuck Taylor paired with Marimekko prints created as far back as the ‘60s by designers including Annika Rimala and Maija Isola.

The kicks are not the first fashion collaboration that Marimekko, known for their furnishing fabrics, has thrust upon our shores–it previously teamed up with their Swedish neighbors at discount-fashion retailer H&M on a well-received clothing collection that debuted here in spring ’08.

“This enriching collaboration brings together two brands that both have a distinctive idiom and a unique heritage,” says Marimekko’s creative director, Minna Kemell-Kutvonen. “The two companies have always walked their own path, and we also share the same unpretentious and joyful approach to life.”
