Exiting out of the elevator onto the fourth floor of the New York Design Center last night, one immediately heard the chatter—no strike that—the roar of people outside of the new Andreu World showroom. The Valencia, Spain-based company’s second flagship in the U.S. quickly filled and the enthusiastic party guests spilled out into the hallways of the NYDC.

The company, originally founded in Spain in 1955, is best known for its contemporary contract seating and tables, on view to the U.S. only in their showroom in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart until last night. This week’s opening marked Andreu World’s first physical venture into the New York design community. Jesús Llinares, CEO of Andreu World, commented on the exciting opportunity, saying, “This has been four, maybe five years in the making. Finally we have a place that can celebrate and show off our product to our New York clients.”

Last night celebrated much more than product as the company threw a Spanish-style fiesta, complete with white-wine sangria, Spanish charcuterie, live guitar and flute performances, and flamenco dancers. The dancers were easily the highlight of the night with a rather emotive show and some very complicated footwork—let’s just say, it’s a good thing someone thought of putting down a temporary dance floor to protect the brand-new floors of the showroom.

If the crowd was any indication of Andreu World’s future in New York, they’re off to a great start.

I missed everybody! Joe tells me the party was a rousing success.

Well, somebody had to take care of the Island, so here I stayed.

I was honored to be a part of this elegant event, to be featured as the first pic in the slideshow and to be called “the highlight of the evening!” Well YES, THANK YOU! Beautiful designs and really great people….
