Morris Adjmi’s NYU Law Building Lands LEED Silver

Washington Square Park may be historically more associated with a young Bob Dylan than budding lawyers, but it is also the longtime home of New York University‘s prestigious School of Law. The school’s landmark 1830′s townhouse recently underwent a renovation by New York-based Morris Adjmi Architects, which resulted in the historic building winning a LEED Silver award.
“Restoring this historic building and designing it to the USGBC’s LEED standards presented a number of unique challenges, but we are very pleased with the end results,” says founder/principal Morris Adjmi. To create an interior courtyard with a new green wall system that brings natural light and plant life to each floor, the firm cut a hole in the roof of the existing building. Now the schools’ offices face the outdoors with park views, the lush courtyard, or a private lane to the north.
