Architectural Photographer Todd Eberle to Speak at Glass House

Nothing speaks to summer in the city like an outing to a country home. And nothing speaks country home to the design community like the Phillip Johnson Glass House. Fortunately, the clever directors of the now-open-to-the-public iconic structure have simulated the same sort of salon-style events Johnson and his lifetime partner David Whitney once hosted in the form of the “Conversations in Context” series. Up this week on the schedule is a talk with photographer Todd Eberle, whose images of Johnson, at age 97, in Glass House resulted in the architect’s final portrait.
In addition to reminiscences of his sessions with both Johnson and Whitney, Eberle will discuss his work as an image maker of both architecture and fine art. A signing of his book, Empire of Space—which spans 20 years of Eberle’s career, from his well known photographs of work by Donald Judd produced at his Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas, to artful images of the contemporary architectural landscape—will precede the program and reception. Tickets for the August 18 event, along with subsequent evenings in the series, may be purchased through philipjohnsonglasshouse.org.
