In a ceremony to be held tomorrow at Toronto’s Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, the United States Green Buildings Council (USGBC) will be recognizing residential work from seven firms, winners of this year’s LEED for Homes Awards. The 11th annual prize, awarded in seven distinct categories, honors innovation and affordability in single-family buildings as well as large-scale multi-unit housing.
“LEED builders continue to push the envelope in areas of innovation and affordability, and so we tip our hats to the dedicated leaders represented in this year’s winners circle,” said Nate Kredich, vice president of residential market development for USGBC.
This year’s winners include: Habitat for Humanity of Kent County, Michigan in the Outstanding Program Commitment category for garnering LEED certification in some 70 community-assistance projects over four years; in the SRO category, Houston’s New Hope Housing won for bringing over 600 low-cost domiciles to the metropolitan area, as well as for a planned LEED Platinum housing project to be called Sakowitz; and in the Production Builder category, the Meadow Ranch Development in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho from firm ActiveWest Builders was recognized for energy efficiency and sensitivity to the needs of the aged.
The judging panel was led by Les Blueston, president of Blue Sea Development.
