Candy Rox d-ash design

Wine can stain you;
Taurine causes cramp;
Beer can drain you;
And bars can be damp.
Drugs aren’t lawful;
Caffeine makes you twitch;
Cigarettes smell awful;
Clearly, sugar is the best way to scratch the 4pm itch.

With apologies to Dorothy Parker, that’s what we think when the afternoon energy lag rolls through the office. We wonder if the team at d-ash design might think so, too, after completing a 1,300-square-foot prototype for Rye, New York, confectioner Candy Rox. Riffing off a brand strategy and graphic program developed by Jan MacLatchie, d-ash designers employed a slew of underground cultural conceits to showcase not only sugary treats, but costume jewelry and framed posters. Elements from the past include vintage furniture and built-in cabinetry featuring old-fashioned candy jars. These are updated by graffiti-tagged walls, decorative skateboards, and a ceiling system of chain-link fencing. A small lounge in the back of the shop is available for private events.

    This design rox! I never imagined combining urban, hip, and candy store in one package in such a soulful and creative way. Tattoo, meet sugar.
