Astrid Anderson for Selfridges
Sarah McCullough of Selfridges & Co. invited London’s young fashion talent to display their own designs in a series of window displays titled Bright Young Things. Menswear designer Astrid Anderson has long focused on merging traditional male garments with the flamboyance of street wear. A pick-up game was a natural narrative, but it had to put forth the appropriate spin. Anderson blew up the print that appears in much of her recent line and used it as a backdrop, juxtaposing it with lace used for other garments. At such a scale, the designer’s concept beyond mere clothing is hard to miss, but she wonders if she was too timid. “Looking back, I wish we had done it larger, but it’s difficult to anticipate the outcome,” she says. Perhaps that means another display is in Anderson’s future.
